Besides the much-coveted Oscar statuettes, it’s the arrival of the celebrities that makes the Academy Awards very special. When I was younger, the only thing that mattered to me was the red carpet and what the stars wore at the Oscars. Fast forward to today, I’ve realized that it’s not only me who pays close attention to every detail of the dresses of the female celebrities. To finally satisfy my need of reviewing the attendance at the 86th Annual Academy Awards, which took place at the Hollywood & Highland Center, I’ve rounded up the ladies who stood out with their effortless style.
Amy Adams proved that being simple is beautiful. Although this Gucci Première tube gown was almost plain – if not for the details on the top as well as the bottom –, she did look astonishing just by showing off her toned arms and sleek hairdo.
One of the most powerful women in the world, Angelina Jolie stood to her status as she sashayed on the event staple in an Elie Saab piece boasting with metallic embroidery. I like the fact that she chose to look sexy without having the need to display her asset(s).
If there’s one woman in Hollywood that I admire the most, it’d probably be Anne Hathaway. Set aside her versatility as an actress, Annie’s timeless sartorial choices are unquestionable. One perfect example is the Gucci crystal-covered number she wore that made her look fresh and young(er).
Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett looked absolutely divine in this embroidered tulle gown from Armani Privé. While this isn’t the first time she took Armani on the red carpet, Miss Golden Girl was able to nail it once more. Her perfect side-swept blonde locks plus Chopard accessories completed her look, making her one of my favorite show-stoppers at award ceremonies.
Charlize Theron, who showed up in a black Christian Dior ensemble, proved that she is one of Hollywood’s Best Dressed list. Everything – except for those clear straps (eek!) – is elegant, including that Harry Winston necklace, which is why Vogue France named it one of their Best Jewelry for Oscars 2014. Now I’m wondering what kind of necklace she’s going to wear next year.
Flapper you say? I can’t help but drool over Jennifer Garner’s Oscar de la Renta gown. Set aside her messy brunette hair for it’s a different story, but the metallic 1920-inspired piece she donned was too glittery to be unnoticed – and it’s a good thing. I never thought she could totally pull it off. I mean, this is the best Oscar dress Jen has ever worn that’s lovable even if I stare at it for ten minutes.
Simple as it may seem but Jessica Biel’s Chanel dress is the reason why I’m one of her avid fans. I began to like her after she became Mrs. Justin Timberlake, but I love her even more because of her flawless sartorial choices in formal events. This particular look for example, created that “kind-of-vibe” (I’m sorry, I can’t find the right words to say!) only Jess can show off.
My oh my! Kate Hudson never fails to surprise me when it comes to her red carpet look. I’ve seen her wow in that Alexander McQueen keyhole gown last year and I can say that this year is no exception. Once again, Kate displayed her cleavage in an Atelier Versace gown that featured fantabulous cape and sophisticated shoulder pads. That’s not even the cherry on top! Her simple makeup and wavy hair exuded that old glamour look as Kate completed everything with a stylish attitude.
Who would’ve thought Lady Gaga can totally work it in an exquisite Atelier Versace tube gown without the bizarreness? Like it or not, the extraordinary singer was grandiose as she sashayed on the red carpet looking like a queen. The embellished piece captured her coveted curves, making her one music bombshell. There’s only one thing I can say about her Oscars 2014 look: E-P-I-C.
Completing my list is red carpet newcomer Lupita Nyong’o, who was full of class in a blue fairytale-like gown made by Prada. This is probably why most people call her “Lupitarella.” Even if Cinderella is my least favorite Disney princess, I like how the Best Supporting Actress winner displayed her taste in fashion. Among her Fred Leighton jewels, it’s the pair of cuff earrings that brought her into another level of refinement.
Who’s your favorite fashionista at the Oscars 2014? Let’s talk about them!
