When the year 2014 kicked in, I promised to keep myself updated with what’s going on in the fashion industry by getting magazines. Since international glossies such as Vogue, ELLE, and Harper’s Bazaar are too expensive, I’ve decided to go for the Philippines’ leading fashion magazine – that is Preview.
Since January 2014, I’ve been collecting Preview magazines to encourage me to write more about lifestyle, particularly fashion. It was after my birthday when I finally got a hold of its March issue, and just like any fan, I was surprised by the magazine’s total makeover. From the cover to its feature stories, the new Preview is definitely something to watch out for. How do I love it? Let me count the ways.
The stylish Kim Jones covers Preview’s March 2014 ish. Although she looked so classy in a Saint Laurent dress, I couldn’t help but notice how the fonts on the front changed.
The logo, for example, was compressed unlike its previous look – which was enlarged until the corners of the magazine. Also, that kiss mark beside Kim added that sweet yet sexy vibe.
Instead of the usual crowded headlines on fashion magazines, Preview went for a minimalist design with just a few texts on the cover. It actually worked because this kind of strategy gives mystery as to what the readers await them.
Among its sections, it’s the Staff Box that I always look at. I’m happy because photos from the editors and writers’ Instagram accounts were placed on the page, making it more personal.
Another section that caught my attention was the Contributors page. How do I reinvent myself? I take risks. No matter how impossible my dreams may seem, I try to brush off the negative thoughts and continue chasing them with faith in God.
How do you like Preview’s EIC Pauline Juan’s handwriting? It’s so beautiful! Up to now, I still imagine myself as the editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine. And yes, Pauline is one of the fantabulous EICs that I look up to. Expect a lot of wise words from Pauline in the coming issues.
Below are some snapshots from the magazine.
If you’re like me, who scours every magazine stand in the mall just to get Preview, then you might consider subscribing to it. Follow the fantabulous Preview team on Twitter and don’t forget to like the page on Facebook.
What can you say about the new look of Preview?
