Capes are here to stay – at least for another season, and that’s according to the recent spring couture shows. Featuring a bevy of capes that came in different shades and texture, this year’s spring is screaming pastels, silk, and waterfall-like covers that even Hollywood celebrities would love to don at red carpet events. From Alexander Vauthier to Zuhair Murad, I present to you the classiest capes that have appeared on the spring runway (so far!).
While the collection exuded rock and roll vibes, one can’t help but think of another word to describe what has been shown on the runway. If I were to add an adjective to perfectly express my thoughts on Vauthier’s spring collection, it’d be glamorous. My favorite look: that strapped dress with cutouts on the waist. Christian Grey would love to see this on Anastasia Steele. What do you think?
One of the many designers I’m dying to meet, Mabille constantly amazes with his creations that can be easily distinguished from the swarm of gowns in the industry. I must admit, though, that this Parisian designer is capable of transforming a very simple masterpiece into a striking product like that sequin-laden two-piece which he finished by adding – yes, you guessed it right! – a cape. Now I wonder if anyone has tried wearing such outfit to work.

The British fashion house’s take on the much-talked about capes is whimsical. Case in point: the cape covered with floral appliques, making it more like a Disney princess owned dress. This set of stunners is probably my favorite because the capes have been utilized in ways other designers have never imagined. That cape draped from the off-the-shoulder gown is gorgeous enough to be seen at an A-List event. I’m thinking of Elle Fanning or Chloe Grace Moretz.
Murad is among the most creative designers this generation is lucky to have. His spring couture show proved why he’s the go-to designer when it comes to evening gowns of superstars. Unlike others, Murad stuck to his design aesthetic – which I suppose is loved by everybody – as he spruced up capes with delicate embroidery. To be honest, I can’t stop staring at the sparkly dresses and imagine myself wearing them for a social gathering. I bet it’d be an affair to remember forever.
Which among these capes appealed to you the most? Let’s talk about it!
